First a good bag (backpack). Waterproof preferably if not, contents should wrapped (stuff sack, trash bag, zip lock bag).
A good sharp knife 4-6 inches long w/a full thick tang. This is a crucial item. Can be used as an axe, skinner, hammer, striker…
Stainless steel bottle w/lid wide mouth preferably. Can be used for water storage, cooking, boiling water…
Fire starter. One is none, at least two different ways to start a fire magnesium/flint, waterproof matches, lighter…
Good flashlight w/extra batteries. I like a head lamp so my lite is hands free.
Tarp for shelter.
Bed roll. Sleeping bag, wool blanket.
At least one 55 gallon trash bag heavy duty. Can be use for shelter, rain gear, water procurement….
Few zip lock freezer bags. Freezer bags are thicker/heavier.
Basic First aid kit.
Compass.
Signal mirror.
Loud whistle. Look in your marine section at your mart of choice.
100ft. 50/50 paracord. So many uses…
50ft. Fishing line(I like a 30lb test braided like), few hooks & a few split shot sinkers.
Bandana.
Decent pair of gloves.
Change of clothes.
And personally I have a CCW w/extra ammo. Yea I have a permit but it’s not gunna matter if SHTF.
I also carry a few small luxury items that don’t take up much space but I don’t have to have them to get buy. Also I never walk out the door w/o a hat and a good pair of boots on me.
Once again this is just my way, it works for me! You can ask 20 different people and get 20 different answers.
